Cleaner scrubbing appliance grime in an Upper East Side Manhattan kitchen
Upper East Side Fridge + oven, four hours

A real Lily Maids story

Sarah M. had four hours and a very greasy stove.

Sarah M. on the Upper East Side called us in a full panic. Her in-laws were landing in a few hours, her apartment was, in her words, a disaster zone, and the part she was most embarrassed about was the grime on her appliances that she'd been avoiding for months. The stovetop had that sticky amber film. The fridge door had fingerprints going back to spring. Our team got there early, worked the kitchen first, and by the time the doorbell rang her home looked and smelled incredible. "The visit went perfectly," she told us, "without any stress."

That's the whole reason this page exists. An appliance cleaning service in New York City isn't a luxury add-on, its usually the difference between a kitchen that looks clean and a kitchen that actually is clean. We handle the inside of the oven, the inside and outside of the refrigerator, the dishwasher, the microwave, the range hood filter, and the small counter appliances that quietly collect dust and grease all year. Book it on its own, or attach it to a deep cleaning or a recurring plan so it never gets this bad again.

What we actually clean

Appliance by appliance.

Most cleaning companies wipe the outside of an appliance and call it done. We open the door. Here's what an appliance cleaning visit covers in a normal New York City kitchen. See pricing or how it works.

Cleaner degreasing an oven and stovetop in a Koreatown Manhattan kitchen
Oven & stovetop Racks, door glass, drip pans

The big one

Oven, Stovetop & Range Hood.

If you only book one appliance, make it the oven. In a small NYC kitchen the oven does a lot of work, and carbon builds up on the floor of the cavity, along the door glass, and on the racks until every roast tastes faintly of smoke. Our team removes the racks, applies a degreaser, lets it sit while we work the stovetop, then scrubs the interior, the inside of the door, and the seal area. Racks get cleaned seperately and go back in dry.

Stovetops get the same treatment. Grates lifted, burner caps cleaned, drip pans degreased, control knobs wiped, and the backsplash behind the range taken back to actual color. Range hood exteriors are polished and the mesh filter is degreased where it's removable. Grease build-up around a cooktop is also a real fire concern, which is why the NFPA's cooking safety guidance puts keeping the cooking area clean near the top of the list.

01 Racks out, degreaser on
02 Interior walls & floor scrubbed
03 Door glass front and back
04 Grates, caps, drip pans
Refrigerator interior cleaning in a Hudson Square Manhattan apartment
Fridge & freezer Shelves out, drawers washed

The one nobody wants to do

Refrigerator & Freezer.

Fridge cleaning is the job people put off the longest, and its the one that pays off fastest. We take out the shelves and drawers, wash them, dry them, and put them back. Interior walls get wiped down, the door gaskets get cleaned out (that's where the black gunk lives), the door bins are washed, and the exterior is polished, which matters a lot on stainless steel in a bright NYC kitchen.

A clean fridge also runs better and holds temperature more evenly, which is worth knowing since USDA food safety guidance recommends keeping a refrigerator at 40°F or below. If you want us to toss expired items, just leave a note at booking and tell us how aggressive to be. Some clients want everything past date gone, others want us to touch nothing. We follow whatever you write.

Microwave and small appliance cleaning in a Little Italy Manhattan kitchen

The daily-use crowd

Dishwasher, Microwave & Small Appliances.

A dishwasher that leaves film on your glasses usually has a clogged filter and a dirty spray arm, not a broken pump. We pull and rinse the filter where it's accessible, wipe the interior door and the gasket, clear the drain area, and clean the detergent dispenser. Microwaves get the ceiling, the turntable, the ring, and the door seal, not just a swipe of the floor.

Then there's everything on the counter that nobody thinks about until guests arrive. Toaster crumb trays, coffee maker exteriors and carafes, air fryer baskets, blender bases, kettle exteriors, and the top of the fridge, which in most NYC apartments is basically a dust shelf. Keeping this stuff clean also helps appliances run efficiently, something ENERGY STAR points out for anything with a coil, filter, or vent.

Laundry nook and washer dryer exterior cleaning in a Two Bridges Manhattan apartment
Laundry nook Drums, gaskets, lint traps

If you have one in-unit

Washer, Dryer & Laundry Nook.

An in-unit washer/dryer is a small miracle in New York City and it deserves better than being ignored. Front-loaders get a rubber gasket that traps water, hair, and lint, and that's where the musty towel smell comes from. We clean the gasket fold, wipe the drum, clean the detergent drawer, and wipe down the exterior and control panel. Dryers get the lint trap cleared and the housing wiped where we can reach it safely.

One honest note: we clean appliances, we don't service or repair them. We won't pull a machine off its water lines or open a vent duct in the wall. If something needs an actual technician we'll tell you plainly instead of pretending a scrub fixed it. Same rule applies to a broken seal, a failing compressor, or a burner that won't light.

Kitchen kept clean with a recurring cleaning plan in Manhattan Valley
Same team, when possible Weekly · bi-weekly · monthly

So it never gets that bad again

Keep It Clean With Recurring Visits.

Here's the pattern we see constantly. Someone books a heavy appliance clean, the kitchen looks incredible, and six months later the oven is back where it started. The fix is not scrubbing harder, its scrubbing on a schedule. Most clients do one full appliance reset, then keep appliance exteriors and the microwave interior on every visit, and rotate the oven and fridge interiors in a few times a year.

That rotation is what a recurring cleaning plan is for. You tell us at booking which appliances to include and how often, and we we build it into the visit so nobody has to remember. Weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly schedules are all available, and recurring clients recieve the plan discount automatically.

More ways we clean.

One-time resets, same-day rescues, spring refreshes, rental turnovers, and morning-after party cleanups. Appliance work can be attached to almost any of them.

Where appliance work fits

Every service we run, with the oven door open.

Appliance cleaning is rarely booked completely on its own. Below is how it slots into each of the services New York City clients already ask us for.

01

Apartment Cleaning

Most of this city lives in apartments, and apartment kitchens are small, which means grease has nowhere to go but the wall, the cabinet fronts, and the underside of the upper cabinets. Our apartment cleaning service teams are used to galley layouts, appliances wedged into tight alcoves, and buildings with strict hallway and elevator rules. If you want the oven and fridge interiors included, add it when you book and we'll schedule the extra time instead of rushing it.

02

Maid Service

Our maid service follows the same checklist every visit, so you always know what you're getting. Appliance exteriors, the stovetop, the sink, and the microwave interior are part of the standard routine. The heavier stuff, meaning inside the oven and inside the refrigerator, is an add-on you can turn on for a single visit or set as a rotation. It's your kitchen, you decide how deep we go.

03

Standard Basic Cleaning

A standard basic cleaning is the maintenance visit: counters, stovetop surface, sink, appliance fronts, cabinet fronts, bathrooms, dusting, floors vacuumed and mopped, beds made, trash out. It does not include the inside of the oven or fridge, and we'd rather say that clearly than surprise you. See exactly what a standard cleaning includes before you book so the scope matches what's in your head.

04

Residential Cleaning

We only clean homes. Not offices, not restaurants, not commercial kitchens. That focus is the reason our teams know how a home range behaves differently from a rental-grade one, and why a brownstone kitchen in Bed-Stuy needs a different plan than a new-build tower in Long Island City with panel-ready appliances. Residential cleaning across Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens is the entire business.

05

Deep Cleaning

This is the service most appliance-cleaning searches actually end up wanting. A deep cleaning includes inside the oven, inside the refrigerator, cabinet interiors on request, baseboards, door frames, light fixtures, and the radiator dust that piles up all winter. If your kitchen hasn't had real attention in a year or more, start here and then keep it up with something lighter.

06

Move in and Move out Cleaning

Landlords in this city check the oven. They check the fridge. They open the dishwasher. That's why appliance interiors are standard in our move-out cleaning, and why a move-in cleaning before the boxes arrive is the only sane time to clean a fridge properly. Both are covered under move-in and move-out cleaning, and code MOVE30 takes $30 off. Check the move-out checklist first.

07

Recurring Cleaning

Weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly. Recurring cleaning is how the best-kept kitchens in the city stay that way, and it's cheaper per visit than booking one-offs. Set the oven for a quarterly rotation, the fridge for every other month, and the microwave and appliance exteriors for every visit. Same team whenever scheduling allows, so nobody has to re-explain where the stovetop grates go.

08

One Time Cleaning

No plan, no commitment, no phone tag. A one-time cleaning is perfect when in-laws are coming, when you're hosting, or when you just looked at the oven door and had a feeling. Pick your date, add the appliance options you want, get a flat price on screen, and that's the price you pay.

09

Housekeeping Service

Ongoing housekeeping is the quiet version of all of this. Same trained cleaners, same checklist, appliances kept in shape week after week so the kitchen never gets to the "I'm embarrassed to open the oven" stage. Clients who work long hours, travel a lot, or are caring for a parent tend to end up here. Read how it works to see the flow from booking to the visit.

10

Same Day Cleaning Service

Sometimes the timeline is today. Same-day cleaning depends entirely on that day's schedule and where you are in the city, and heavy appliance work needs a bigger block of time than a quick tidy, so it isn't always possible on short notice. Call (646) 825-3550 and we'll tell you honestly what we can fit in rather than promising something we can't do.

11

AirBnB Cleaning Service

Guests notice appliances first. A greasy oven or a fridge with someone else's leftovers turns into a review, fast. Our short-term rental cleaning and turnover cleaning include appliance interiors on a rotation you set, plus fridge emptying between stays. Hosts managing several units usually pair this with rental property cleaning and work from the rental cleaning checklist.

12

After Party and Post-Renovation Appliance Cleaning

Two situations that wreck a kitchen fast. After-party cleaning handles the morning-after damage: sticky counters, an oven full of last night's cheese, glassware everywhere. Post-renovation is different, that fine construction dust gets into vents, on top of the fridge, inside the range hood, and on every appliance surface, and it takes repeated passes to actually remove instead of just moving it around.

Appliance work is priced as an add-on because not every kitchen needs every appliance done. Inside the oven and inside the refrigerator are the two most commonly added, and both need extra time on site, so we price them honestly rather than squeezing them into a standard visit and rushing. Recurring clients get plan pricing on every visit, and the first visit of a new plan is often best booked as a deep clean so the ongoing visits stay light.

Questions and answers

The details before you book.

These are the questions New Yorkers ask us most about appliance cleaning. Every answer is open by default, so nothing is hidden behind a click. Still curious? Our full FAQ page goes deeper, and contact us is always open.

What is included in an appliance cleaning service in New York City? 01

A full appliance visit covers the oven interior, racks, and door glass; the stovetop, grates, and burner caps; the range hood exterior and removable filter; the refrigerator inside and out, including shelves, drawers, and gaskets; the freezer; the dishwasher filter, gasket, and interior door; the microwave inside and out; and small counter appliances like the toaster, kettle, and coffee maker. You can book all of it or pick the pieces you actually need. The full room-by-room scope is on our cleaning checklist.

Do you clean inside the oven and refrigerator? 02

Yes, but not on a standard visit. Inside the oven and inside the fridge are add-ons because they take real time, and we would rather charge for that time than rush them. They are already included by default in move-out cleaning and in most deep cleanings. On a standard cleaning just tick the add-on when you book.

How long does appliance cleaning take? 03

A neglected oven alone can take 60 to 90 minutes because the degreaser needs dwell time before scrubbing does anything. A refrigerator interior usually runs 30 to 45 minutes depending on how full it is. A microwave is normally 10 to 15. If you're adding several appliances to a regular visit, expect the appointment to run noticeably longer, and we'll say so at booking rather than surprising you on the day.

What products do you use around food surfaces? 04

We arrive with professional supplies, so you don't need to stock anything. Inside ovens we use degreasers rated for oven interiors and rinse thoroughly afterward. For fridge interiors and food-contact areas we use gentler products and plenty of clean water. Prefer green products because of kids, pets, or sensitivities? Ask for EPA Safer Choice certified products in your booking notes and that's what the team will bring. If you have a specific product you love for a specific finish, leave it out with a note.

Should I empty the fridge before you arrive? 05

It helps a lot. If the fridge is mostly empty we can clean it faster and better, and you pay for less time. If that's not realistic, leave a note telling us how to handle food. Some clients want anything past its date thrown out, others want us to move items to the counter and put them straight back. We follow your written instruction and don't guess. The preparing for your cleaning page covers the rest of the prep.

Do I need to be home during the visit? 06

No, and most of our clients aren't. Doorman handoff, lockbox, or a smart-lock code all work fine. Add access instructions in your booking notes and we'll coordinate with your front desk and follow the building's elevator and service-entrance rules. Walk-ups are no problem and there's no extra charge for stairs.

Can I add appliance cleaning to a recurring plan? 07

Absolutely, and it's the smartest way to do it. Keep appliance exteriors and the microwave on every visit, then rotate the oven and fridge interiors in a few times a year. Set it once when you book a recurring cleaning plan and nobody has to remember it again. Plan discounts apply automatically on every visit.

Do you repair appliances or clean vents and ducts? 08

No. We clean, we don't repair. We won't disconnect a machine from its water or gas lines, pull an appliance out from a built-in cabinet run, or open a dryer vent duct inside a wall. Those jobs need a licensed technician, and we'll tell you that straight instead of pretending a scrub solved it.

What if I'm not happy with the result? 09

Tell us within 24 hours and we'll come back and re-clean the areas in question at no charge. Some very old baked-on carbon simply won't come all the way off in one pass, and if that's the case the team will tell you on site rather than pretend otherwise. Read the full satisfaction guarantee for how it works.
