A real Lily Maids story

David had a new lease and an old stove.

David L. was moving into a one-bedroom in Astoria and could not bring himself to unpack a single box. The place was structurally fine. It just wasn't his clean yet. Somebody else's cooking was still in the oven vents, and the fridge shelves had that faint sweet smell that no amount of paper towels fixes.

So he booked us before the boxes came off the truck. Two cleaners, one empty apartment, and a checklist that starts inside the appliances instead of ending there. "The service provided an amazing end of tenancy cleaning that left the stove, refrigerator, and all the cabinets absolutely spotless," he told us afterwards, "which gave me a huge sense of relief."

That is the whole idea. An end of tenancy cleaning service in New York City is not a regular tidy-up with a fancier name. It's the clean that happens when the furniture is gone and everything the sofa was hiding is suddenly visible - the day before a landlord walkthrough, or the day before you start living somewhere new. Whether your the tenant handing keys back or the one picking them up, we work off a move-out checklist built around what NYC landlords and management companies actually inspect. Pick a time, see the flat price, and go deal with the moving truck instead.

The main event

End of Tenancy Cleaning Service.

An end of tenancy clean is measured against a different bar than your usual Saturday reset. Nobody inspects the top of your fridge while you live somewhere. On handover day, somebody does. So we work the apartment while it's empty and go after the things that only show up once the furniture leaves: oven interior and racks, refrigerator shelves and drawers, inside and outside of every cabinet, baseboards, door frames, window sills, light switch plates, closet shelving, radiator covers, and the grout line where the tub meets the tile.

Bathrooms get descaled, not just wiped. Kitchens get degreased behind the range where the splatter collects. Floors are vacuumed and then mopped, edges included. We follow the same written scope every time, which is what makes it repeatable - you can read it in advance on our move-out cleaning checklist and compare it against your lease rider before you book. If your landlord sent you their own list, forward it in the booking notes and we'll flag anything that sits outside standard cleaning, like painting or repairs, before we arrive rather than after.

Apartment Cleaning & Maid Service

Apartment Cleaning and Maid Service.

Most end of tenancy jobs in this city are apartments, not houses, and small rooms are genuinely harder to clean well. There's less surface area but every inch of it is working - one counter is prep space, mail pile, and drying rack all at once. Our apartment cleaning service teams are trained for galley kitchens, three-quarter baths, radiator alcoves, and pre-war closets with shelves at eye level.

If you're staying put and just want the place handled every week or two, that's our maid service- same trained cleaners, same written standard cleaning scope, on a schedule. Plenty of clients start with a handover clean at the old place and keep us on at the new one. Honestly its the easiest way to avoid ever needing an emergency deep clean again.

Deep cleaning a bathroom in a Sunnyside Queens apartment

Top to bottom, inside out

Deep Cleaning and One-Time Cleaning.

People mix these two up constantly, so here's the plain version. A one-time cleaning is a single standard visit - kitchen, baths, dusting, floors, beds - with no schedule attached. A deep cleaning adds the slow, detailed work: appliance interiors, inside cabinets, baseboards and trim, door tops, light fixtures, tile and grout, behind and under furniture where it moves safely.

An end of tenancy clean is deep-cleaning work performed on an empty home, which is why it's usually faster per square foot and more thorough than the same job done around a full apartment. It's also the reason we recommend it for the move-in side too - radiator dust and years of closet grit are a real indoor air issue in old NYC buildings, and the city's own Department of Housing Preservation and Development keeps publishing on apartment conditions for exactly that reason. See what a deep cleaning includes.

Rental unit cleaned for turnover in Red Hook Brooklyn
Turnovers & rentals Ready for the next tenant

For landlords and hosts

Turnover and Rental Property Cleaning.

If you own or manage units, end of tenancy cleaning is just Tuesday. The old tenant is out, the new lease starts Friday, and the unit has to photograph well and smell like nothing. Our turnover cleaning and rental property cleaning run on the same empty-home scope, with the appliance interiors and cabinet work that new tenants open first.

Hosts booking guest stays use our short-term rental cleaning instead, which is a tighter reset between bookings with linens and staging - the detail is laid out on the rental cleaning checklist. Managing multiple units in one building? Tell us at booking and we'll try to sequence them back to back on the same day so you're only coordinating one elevator reservation and one and one super.

After you unpack

Move-In and Recurring Cleaning.

The best time for a move-in cleaning is the gap between getting keys and the truck arriving, even if that gap is only four hours. Empty rooms clean fast, and you never have to clean around your own boxes later. Some clients book both sides on the same day - old place in the morning, new place in the afternoon - which we handle as a move-in and move-out pair.

Once you're settled, a recurring plan is what keeps your next handover boring. Weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly, same standard each visit, same team whenever scheduling allows. And if life happens, our rescheduling policy is written down instead of improvised. Need something faster than a plan? Same-day cleaning is often possible depending on that day's route.

More ways we clean.

Lease dates rarely cooperate. These are the other cleans that come up around a move - the party you threw the night before you packed, the spring reset you kept postponing, the housekeeping visit that keeps a place inspection-ready.

What is included

The handover checklist.

Standard cleaning covers the first two columns. An end of tenancy or deep clean adds the third. We bring our own supplies and equipment, and green products are available on request. See the full checklist >

Kitchen

  • Countertops and backsplash
  • Stovetop, hood, and appliance exteriors
  • Sink scrubbed and polished
  • Cabinet fronts wiped down
  • Trash removed, floors mopped

Bathroom

  • Tub, shower, and tile scrubbed
  • Toilet inside and out
  • Mirror and fixtures polished
  • Vanity and sink sanitized
  • Floors disinfected

Handover Extras

  • Inside oven, racks, and broiler
  • Inside fridge and freezer
  • Inside cabinets and drawers
  • Baseboards, trim, and door frames
  • Window sills and closet shelving

Add-ons you can book on top: interior windows where they're reachable and safe, inside a second oven or wall unit, laundry, and extra fridge or freezer interiors for a second appliance. Anything that isn't cleaning - painting, patching, hauling furniture out, pest treatment, or water damage remediation - is outside our scope, and we'll say so before the visit rather than surprise you on the invoice.

Pricing

Know the price before we knock.

End of tenancy pricing depends on a handful of real things: how many bedrooms and bathrooms, whether the apartment is empty, how much oven and fridge work is involved, add-ons like interior windows, and access details such as a walk-up or a reserved elevator. You see the full flat rate before you confirm, not after we finish. See full pricing >

Recurring plan discounts.

If you're moving into a place you plan to stay in, a schedule costs less per visit than one-off calls. Weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly plans all carry a standing discount that's shown when you pick your frequency at checkout, and there's no long contract holding you in - you can pause or change frequency under our rescheduling policy. Most homes that have been empty or neglected start with one deep clean, then settle into the lighter recurring rate.

What you actually get

Results, not promises.

Nobody books an end of tenancy clean because they love clean ovens. They book it because moving in New York City eats every spare hour and the walkthrough is Friday at ten.

If you're moving out

  • An empty home cleaned to a written scope
  • Appliance interiors done, not skipped
  • Photos-ready rooms for your own records
  • One less argument at the walkthrough

If you're moving in

  • Someone else's kitchen, gone
  • Shelves and closets wiped before you load them
  • Dust cleared before the boxes arrive
  • First night in a home that feels yours

If you manage the unit

  • Faster turnaround between leases
  • Listing photos that show well
  • A repeatable standard across units
  • One point of contact for scheduling

One thing we won't do is promise you a deposit back - that's between you, your landlord, and your lease. New York State does set the ground rules, including the timeline for returning a deposit and the fact that landlords can't withhold for ordinary wear and tear; NYS Homes and Community Renewal publishes tenant guidance worth reading before your walkthrough. What we can do is make cleanliness a non-issue, and give you a documented scope of what was cleaned. Also, do yourself a favor and set up mail forwarding the same week you book the clean - people forget that one every single time.

Questions and answers

The details before you book.

These are the questions renters, new tenants, and landlords ask us most about end of tenancy cleaning. Every answer is open by default - nothing hidden behind a click. Still curious? Our full FAQ page goes deeper, and preparing for your cleaning covers the day-of details.

What is end of tenancy cleaning, exactly? 01

It's a detailed clean of an empty or nearly empty home, done at the end of a lease so the place can be handed over. Compared with a regular visit it adds appliance interiors, inside cabinets and drawers, baseboards and trim, window sills, closet shelving, and hard scrubbing in the bathroom. In NYC it's the same work people call a move-out clean - the full scope lives on our move-out cleaning checklist.

Does the apartment need to be empty? 02

Empty is ideal, and it's how you get the most out of the visit. We can't clean inside cabinets that are still full or reach a wall the sofa is against. A few boxes stacked in one room is fine - just tell us at booking so we plan the route. If furniture is staying, say so in the notes and we'll clean around it and tell you what we couldn't reach.

How long does an end of tenancy clean take? 03

It depends on size and condition more than anything. A studio in decent shape can be a few hours; a three-bedroom with a heavily used oven and years of cabinet grease is a much longer day, often with a larger team. When you book online you'll see the estimated time along with the flat price, and if we hit something unexpected we call you before doing extra work rather than after.

Will this get my security deposit back? 04

We can't promise that, and any cleaner who does is guessing. Deposits come down to your lease, damage, and your landlord - not just cleanliness. What we can do is remove cleaning from the list of things they can point at, and give you a clear record of the scope we completed. Take your own photos after we finish; they cost nothing and they help.

Do you bring supplies and equipment? 05

Yes. Our teams arrive with professional supplies, cloths, and a vacuum, so you don't have to keep anything in a half-packed apartment. If you'd prefer greener products because of kids, pets, or sensitivities, ask in the booking notes and we'll use them. Got a specific product you trust for a particular surface? Leave it out with a note and the team will use that instead.

Can you handle my building's rules and access? 06

That's most of NYC cleaning, honestly. Doorman handoff, super with a key, lockbox, or a smart-lock code all work - add the details in your booking notes. If your building requires a reserved service elevator or vendor paperwork, tell us when you book and we'll confirm what we can provide and what time windows work. Walk-ups are fine, and there's no walk-up surcharge.

Can I book on short notice? 07

Often, yes. Lease dates move and closings slip, so we keep some flexibility. Same-day cleaning depends on that day's route and your neighborhood - call (646) 825-3550 and we'll tell you straight away what's actually open. Booking two or three days ahead gives you the widest choice of arrival windows, and the FLEXIBLE code saves 5% if you can give us a wider window.

What if the landlord finds something we missed? 08

Tell us within 24 hours and we come back and re-clean the areas in question at no charge. That applies to every borough and every service, including handover cleans. Read the full satisfaction guarantee. Repairs, painting, and anything that isn't cleaning fall outside what we can fix - but if it's dirt, its on us to put right.
