Home Clean Out Cleaning Service New York City Residents Rely On

Rated 5 stars by New Yorkers in 3 boroughs

Some cleanings are just a tidy up. A clean out is different. Its the one you book when the apartment has gotten away from you, when the lease ends Friday, when the boxes are gone but the grime is not. Lily Maids handles the whole reset - empty rooms, greasy cabinets, dusty closets, bathrooms scrubbed to the tile - with insured, background-checked cleaners, flat upfront pricing, and booking that takes about a minute.

A real Lily Maids story

Sarah started a new job the same week her lease ran out.

Sarah Miller called us from a fourth-floor walk-up in Park Slope. The movers had come and gone. What was left behind was every single thing a mover doesn't touch: a decade of dust behind the radiator, cabinet shelves that had gone sticky, a bathroom that had quietly turned yellow, and a landlord walkthrough scheduled in 48 hours. She was also two days into a new job. She had no hours left to give.

Our crew treated it as what it actually was - not a tidy up, a full clean out. Cabinets emptied and degreased. Oven and fridge done inside. Baseboards, closet floors, window sills, the strip of floor the couch had been hiding for six years. "They tackled every dusty corner and greasy cabinet," she told us after. "I got my full security deposit back thanks to their meticulous work."

That's what a house cleaning service New York City renters actually keep calling back looks like. If your place needs the same kind of reset - end of lease, post-clutter, post-renovation, or just months of catching up - you can pick a time and see a flat price before you confirm.

What a clean out really means

Not a wipe down. A full reset.

A home clean out in New York City usually means one of three things: a place is being emptied, a place has gotten badly behind, or a place is about to be handed over to somebody else. All three need more than a mop. Here's how we break it up. See pricing or how it works.

Standard basic cleaning of a Flatbush Brooklyn living room
Same checklist, every visit Kitchens · baths · floors

Standard Basic Cleaning

Standard Basic Cleaning and Residential Cleaning.

Every clean out starts from the same base. Kitchens scrubbed, bathrooms sanitized, surfaces dusted, floors vacuumed and mopped, beds made, trash out. That's our standard basic cleaning, and it's the same residential cleaning routine on visit one and visit fifty - so nobody has to guess what got done.

Where a clean out goes further is depth and reach. We open the cabinets instead of wiping the fronts. We move what can safely be moved. We get the closet floor, the top of the fridge, and the little strip behind the toilet that nobody enjoys. Compare the two scopes on our standard cleaning checklist and the full room-by-room cleaning checklist.

Most of NYC lives in apartments

Apartment Cleaning and Maid Service.

In a 600 square foot apartment there is nowhere for mess to go. Every counter is a landing zone, every closet is storage, and one crowded room can make the whole place feel unlivable. Our apartment cleaning crews are trained for exactly that - narrow galley kitchens, one-bathroom layouts, and buildings that care a great deal about hallway rules.

If you want the reset to hold, our maid service and apartment cleaning keep the same team on the same checklist, whether you're in a pre-war building on the Upper East Side or a converted loft in Williamsburg. We coordinate with doormen, follow elevator rules, and take the stairs when there is no elevator without adding a fee for it.

Deep cleaning a Woodside Queens bathroom during a home clean out

Top to bottom, inside out

Deep Cleaning for a real clean out.

This is the heart of a home clean out. Inside the oven and the fridge. Behind and under furniture. Baseboards, door frames, light fixtures, cabinet interiors, and the radiator dust that quietly builds all winter long in a steam-heated building. If a surface has been ignored for a year, this is the visit that finds it.

Deep cleaning also does something people don't expect - it makes the air in the apartment feel different. The American Lung Association points out that dust, dander and indoor allergens build up quickly in closed-up city homes, and a sealed NYC apartment in February is about as closed-up as it gets. See exactly what a deep cleaning includes before you book.

Before the keys change hands

Move in and Move out Cleaning.

The most common clean out we get called for is a lease ending. Movers take the furniture and leave the mess. Our move-out cleaning follows the same checklists NYC landlords actually walk through - inside cabinets, inside the oven, inside the fridge, bathroom fixtures, floors, window sills, and the marks left behind where things used to stand.

Coming the other direction, move-in cleaning happens before your boxes arrive, so your first night is spent in a place that is actually clean and not just empty. We also handle turnover cleaning, rental property cleaning, and short-term rental cleaning for hosts and small landlords. One note: we clean, we don't haul. If your clean out involves furniture or large junk, the NYC Department of Sanitation bulk collection rules explain how to set out large items, and we'll work around whatever is still waiting for pickup. Code MOVE30 takes $30 off any move-in or move-out cleaning, and our move-out cleaning checklist shows the full scope.

Keeping it that way

Recurring Cleaning and Housekeeping Service.

Here's the honest truth about clean outs. Most people who need one needed a routine six months earlier. A single big reset feels amazing for about three weeks. After that the apartment starts drifting back, and the the next clean out is already forming.

That's why so many clean out clients switch to recurring cleaning right after. Weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly housekeeping service, same standard every visit, same team whenever the schedule allows. It's how Emily's parents in Forest Hills stay in a home that's safe to move around in, and how families in Chelsea stop loosing their Saturdays to the bathroom. Recurring plans also carry a plan discount - the details are on our pricing page.

More clean out options

Pick the one that fits your week.

Not every clean out is a move out. Some are a one-off catch-up, some are the morning after a party, and a few are booked for today.

One Time Cleaning

No plan, no commitment, no schedule. A single visit for a place that got behind - the classic clean out booking. Great before guests, after a rough month, or when you just want the reset without signing up for anything. See one-time cleaning >

Same Day Cleaning Service

Sometimes the clean out has to happen now. Same-day depends entirely on that day's route and openings, so call (646) 825-3550 and we'll tell you straight whether we can get a team out. Same-day cleaning >

AirBnB Cleaning Service

Guests out at 11, guests in at 3. Airbnb and short-term rental turnovers get the same clean out standard on a tighter clock, with linens handled and a reset that photographs well. Short-term rental cleaning >

After-Party Cleaning

Crumbs ground into the rug, sticky floors, glitter in places glitter should not be. We come the next morning and give the whole place an aggressive clean out before you have to look at it again. After-party cleaning >

Spring Cleaning

The seasonal version of a clean out. Radiator dust from all winter, window sills, closets, and everything the heating season quietly coated. Popular from March through May. Spring cleaning >

Sanitizing Clean Out

After a flu ran through the household, or after a pest treatment when cabinets have to come out anyway. High-touch surfaces first: handles, switches, faucets, remotes, fixtures. Add a note when you book.

Questions and answers

Clean out details before you book.

These are the questions New Yorkers ask us most about home clean outs. Every answer is open by default, so nothing is hidden behind a click. Still curious? Our full FAQ page goes deeper.

What's the difference between a clean out and a regular cleaning? 01

A regular cleaning maintains a home that's already in decent shape. A clean out resets a home that isn't - it goes inside cabinets, inside the oven and fridge, behind and under what can safely be moved, and into closets, baseboards, and window sills. In practice, most clean outs are booked as a deep cleaning or a move-out cleaning. Compare both scopes on our standard cleaning and deep cleaning pages.

Do you haul away junk and furniture? 02

No - we're a cleaning company, not a junk removal or hauling service. We clean around and behind what's there, and we clean out cabinets, closets, and appliances. If you have large items to get rid of, arrange that separately first; the NYC Sanitation bulk item rules cover how and when to set them out. A clean out lands best right after the stuff is gone.

Should the apartment be empty for a clean out? 03

Empty is ideal for a move-out, because we can reach every cabinet, corner, and floor a landlord actually checks. But plenty of clean outs happen in lived-in homes - post-trip, post-illness, post-renovation, or just badly behind. If cabinets or a pantry need to be emptied for us to scrub inside, tell us at booking so we plan the time for it. See preparing for your cleaning.

Do you bring cleaning supplies? 04

Yes. Our teams arrive with professional supplies and equipment, so you never have to stock a thing. Prefer green products because of kids or pets? Ask for EPA Safer Choice certified products in your booking notes and we'll use them. If you love a specific product for a specific surface, leave it out with a note and the team will use that instead.

How long does a home clean out take? 05

It depends on square footage, number of bathrooms, and how far behind things have gotten. A studio clean out can be a few hours. A three-bedroom that hasn't had a deep clean in a couple years takes considerably longer, and often a bigger crew. We size the visit when you book so the time on the calendar matches the work in front of us, not a generic slot.

Do I need to be home for it? 06

No. Most clean outs happen while people are at work or already in the new place. Doorman handoff, lockbox, or a smart-lock code all work - just add access instructions in your booking notes. We coordinate with front desks and follow building elevator and service-entrance rules so you don't have to babysit the visit.

Can I book a same-day clean out? 07

Sometimes, and it comes down to that day's route. Clean outs need more hours than a standard visit, so same-day is tighter. Call (646) 825-3550 or check same-day cleaning and we'll tell you honestly what's open. Booking a day or two out gives you far more choice of arrival windows.

What if I'm not happy with the clean? 08

Tell us within 24 hours and we'll come back and re-clean the areas in question at no charge. That's our promise on every visit, in every borough. Read the full satisfaction guarantee for how it works, and our cancellation and rescheduling policy if your dates shift.
