A real Lily Maids story

James had one night. The fridge had four years.

James Wilson called us from the sidewalk outside his Greenwich Village walk-up. The movers had just pulled away, his lease ended the next morning, and he was standing in an empty one-bedroom that suddenly looked a lot worse without furniture in front of it. Four years of cooking baked onto the oven racks. Sticky rings in the fridge drawers. Cabinet interiors nobody had wiped since he signed the lease.

Our team took it that evening. Oven interior, fridge interior, every cabinet emptied and wiped inside and out, bathroom fixtures descaled, baseboards, closet shelves, and floors last so nothing tracked back through. James told us after: "They did an amazing job cleaning the interior of the fridge and cabinets, and the place looks better than when I moved in."

That is the whole job of a move-out cleaning service New York City renters can rely on. Not a tidy-up. A reset that stands up to somebody walking the apartment with a clipboard. We do the same work for people moving in - see move-in cleaning- and for landlords handling turnover cleaning between tenants.

What we actually do

Every clean a move needs.

Moving in this city is a logistics problem with a cleaning problem stapled to it. Pick the service that fits your dates, book online, and we handle the scrubbing. See pricing or how it works.

Inside oven & fridge Every move-out, always

The main event

Move In and Move Out Cleaning.

Here is the thing most people learn too late: an empty apartment shows everything. The dust shadow where the dresser stood. The grease film above the stove. The closet shelf that has never once been wiped. A regular tidy-up doesn't touch any of that, which is why our move-out cleaning service New York City visit is built as a full empty-home reset instead.

Every move-out includes the oven interior, the refrigerator interior, all cabinet and drawer interiors, closet shelving, bathroom tile and fixtures, light switches and door frames, baseboards, window sills, and floors done last. We follow the same move-out cleaning checklist that management companies tend to walk with, so nothing gets skipped because somebody was in a hurry.

Moving the other direction? A move-in cleaning before the boxes arrive is the only time your new place will ever be genuinely easy to clean. Doing both ends in the same week is common, and our move-in and move-out cleaning page covers how we schedule that. Code MOVE30 takes $30 off either one.

Most of us rent apartments

Apartment Cleaning.

A 450-square-foot studio is not a small house. Its a completely different job. One counter does the work of four, the bathroom has no ventilation to speak of, and the kitchen sits three feet from the couch, so grease travels. Our teams clean NYC apartments all day, which means they already know where the grime hides in a pre-war walk-up versus a 2015 glass tower.

That matters most on a lease handover, because apartment buildings have rules. Service elevators need reserving. Front desks need names on a list. Some walk-ups have no water access above the second floor. We plan around all of it. Our apartment cleaning service works the same whether you're leaving a Upper East Side pre-war or a converted loft in Williamsburg.

Deep cleaning a Crown Heights Brooklyn bathroom before a lease handover

Top to bottom, inside out

Deep Cleaning.

A move-out clean and a deep clean overlap a lot, and people mix them up constantly. Simple version: a deep cleaning service is for a home you still live in, with furniture in it. A move-out is the same level of detail on a home that's empty, which is why we can reach behind and underneath everything.

Both include the things a weekly wipe-down never gets to. Grout scrubbed instead of mopped over. Radiator fins, which in an old NYC building hold a startling amount of winter dust. Cabinet interiors, door frames, light fixtures, switch plates. If you're staying put and just want the reset, our deep cleaning checklist spells out exactly what gets added over a standard visit. Worth knowing: the EPA's indoor air quality research notes indoor pollutant levels often run higher than outdoors, and settled dust is a big part of that.

One-time cleaning in a Carroll Gardens Brooklyn apartment
No contract, no commitment One visit, one flat price

Just this once

One Time Cleaning.

Not every clean needs to become a habit. A one-time cleaning is a single visit, single price, nothing recurring attached. People book it before a landlord inspection, before a broker brings buyers through, after a bad week, or the morning the in-laws land.

It's also the right call mid-move, when you've cleared half the apartment and want the empty half handled now rather than at midnight on the 31st. Tell us in the booking notes which rooms are already empty and we'll focus there first.

Recurring cleaning keeping a Cobble Hill Brooklyn home tidy
Same team, when possible Weekly · bi-weekly · monthly

After the boxes are gone

Recurring Cleaning.

A fair number of our move-in clients call back a month later and set up a schedule, mostly because the new place still feels good and they'd like to keep it that way. Weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly recurring cleaning plans carry a per-visit discount, and the amount depends on frequency - the details live on our pricing page rather than being buried in fine print.

The homes that always look good aren't cleaned harder. They're just cleaned on a calendar, before the mess gets a head start. We send the same team whenever scheduling allows, so nobody has to re-explain which floors get mopped and which get steamed.

More ways we clean.

Same crews, same standard, different reason for the visit.

Housekeeping Service

Ongoing housekeeping is the quiet version of all this: someone comes, the kitchen and baths get done properly, the beds get made, the floors get handled, and you don't think about it. Robert T. in Park Slope set it up for his parents' brownstone because the upkeep had gotten past them, and the crew has been going back ever since. Our maid service covers the same ground with the same standard cleaning checklist every visit.

Same Day Cleaning Service

Sometimes the walkthrough gets moved up and you find out that morning. Same-day is often possible - it depends entirely on what's already on the schedule and where you are - so call (646) 825-3550 rather than guessing. We'll tell you straight whether we can get a team there. More on our same-day cleaning page. Booking even a day ahead gives you far more choice of arrival window.

AirBnB Cleaning Service

Short-term rental turnovers are their own animal: tight windows between checkout and check-in, linens to swap, amenities to restock, and photos that need to match what the last guest saw. We handle short-term rental cleaning and turnover cleaning for hosts across all three boroughs, with a rental cleaning checklist built around back-to-back bookings.

Residential Cleaning

Everything on this page is residential work - apartments, condos, co-ops, brownstones, and townhouses. We don't do offices, retail, or construction sites, and we're honest about the edges of what house cleaning covers. Water damage, mold, or pest infestation needs a licensed remediation company first; we come in afterward. Landlords managing units can start with rental property cleaning.

What is included

Standard Basic Cleaning covers.

This is the base scope on every visit. A move-out adds the empty-home items on top: oven interior, fridge interior, all cabinet and drawer interiors, and closet shelving. We bring our own supplies, including CDC-aligned disinfection on high-touch surfaces when you ask for it. See the full checklist > or compare with what a deep cleaning adds.

Pricing

Know the price before we knock.

Move-out pricing depends on the size of the home, how many bathrooms, the condition it's in, and any add-ons. That's why we quote it instead of printing one number - a studio being handed back after a year and a three-bedroom after six years are not the same job. You see the full flat rate before you confirm, never after. See full pricing >

Recurring plans carry a per-visit discount at weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly frequencies, and the first visit on a new plan is often a deep clean so the schedule starts from a real baseline. Add-ons like interior windows or extra appliance interiors are priced individually at booking. Walk-ups don't carry a surcharge.

The part nobody warns you about

Move-out logistics in New York City.

Cleaning an empty apartment in this city is half scrubbing and half scheduling. Most buildings only allow move-related work on weekdays during business hours. Many require the service elevator to be reserved days ahead, and if the movers have it booked from 9 to 1, we can't be in there at 11. Tell us your elevator window when you book and we'll build around it.

Access is the other one. If you've already handed keys to the super, or the broker is holding them, we need a name and a number - not a "someone will be there." Front desks want our team on a list in advance. Walk-ups are fine, no extra charge, but let us know the floor so we bring the right equipment up in one trip rather then three.

Water and power matter more than people expect. If utilities are already shut off in the unit, say so before the visit, because it changes what's possible. Same with the fridge: if it was unplugged and left closed for a week, there may be odor or standing water we need to plan for.

Timing wise, book the clean after the movers finish, not the same afternoon. Furniture coming through a freshly cleaned apartment undoes the work, and boxes in the corner mean we can't reach the corner. If your lease ends the 31st, aim for the 29th or 30th and leave yourself a buffer for the walkthrough.

On deposits: we clean to the checklist, thoroughly, and that's what we can promise. What a landlord ultimately decides is between you and them, and the New York State Attorney General's tenant guidance is the better place to read about your rights there. What we control is that the apartment is genuinely clean when we leave, and if something got missed you tell us within 24 hours and we come back.

Neighborhood quirks are real, too. Older Brooklyn brownstones have radiator alcoves and painted-over hardware that need care. New Queens towers have trash-room rules about what can go down the chute. We work in these buildings constantly and and it saves everyone a phone call.

Questions and answers

The details before you book.

These are the questions people ask us most when a lease is ending. Every answer is open by default, so nothing is hidden behind a click. Still curious? Our full FAQ page goes deeper, and how it works walks through the booking itself.

What's included in a move-out cleaning? 01

Everything in a standard visit, plus the empty-home items: oven interior, refrigerator interior, all cabinet and drawer interiors, closet shelving, baseboards, door frames, switch plates, window sills, and floors done last. Bathrooms get tile and grout attention rather than a surface mop. The full scope is on our move-out cleaning checklist, and you can compare it against a standard cleaning.

Does the apartment need to be empty? 02

Empty, or close to it. We can't clean inside a cabinet that's still full or behind a couch that hasn't moved. If a few boxes are left in one room, that's fine - just tell us in the booking notes which rooms are clear so the team plans the order. Fully furnished homes are better served by a deep cleaning.

Do you bring cleaning supplies? 03

Yes, always. Our teams arrive with professional supplies and equipment, so you don't need to leave anything behind - which is handy, since most people have already packed the cleaning cupboard. Prefer greener products because of kids or pets? Ask in the booking notes. If you want a specific product used on a specific surface, leave it out with a note and the team will use it.

Do I need to be there? 04

No, and on move-out day most people aren't. Doorman handoff, lockbox, super, broker, or a smart-lock code all work - we just need the access details and a contact number in advance. We coordinate with front desks and follow building rules on elevators and service entrances. See preparing for your cleaning for the short pre-visit rundown.

How long does a move-out clean take? 05

It depends on size and condition, and honestly on how long you lived there. A studio handed back after a year is a few hours. A three-bedroom after six years with a heavily used oven takes most of a day. We give you the expected window when we quote, so you can line it up with your elevator reservation instead of hoping it fits.

Can I get a move-out clean same day? 06

Sometimes - it comes down to that day's schedule and your location, so it's never something we promise in advance. Call (646) 825-3550 and we'll tell you what's genuinely available. Details on our same-day cleaning page. Booking two or three days out gives you the widest choice of arrival times, especially at the end of the month when everybody's lease turns over.

What if I need to reschedule? 07

Moves slip constantly, so this happens a lot and it's not a problem. Let us know as early as you can and we'll move the visit; the notice windows and any fees are laid out in our cancellation and rescheduling policy. If your closing or handover date moves, tell us the same day you find out and we'll try to hold a slot.

What if something gets missed? 08

Tell us within 24 hours and we come back and re-clean the areas in question at no charge. That applies on every visit, in every borough. The full terms are on our satisfaction guarantee page. We don't make claims about what a landlord will decide regarding a deposit - what we stand behind is the cleaning itself.
