Cleaner deep cleaning a kitchen in an Upper East Side area Manhattan apartment
Upper East Side Kitchen passed the in-law test

A real Lily Maids story

Jessica had in-laws coming. And a kitchen she was hiding.

Jessica M. lives on the Upper East Side and she called us the week her in-laws were flying in for the first time. Her words, not ours: the apartment was a disaster. She had been working late, the kitchen had gotten away from her, and the guest room was basically storage. She did not need a tidy-up. She needed the kind of clean where somebody actually opens the oven door.

Our team came early. We worked the kitchen first, then bathrooms, then every surface in the place, right down to the baseboards and the top of the fridge. When Jessica wrote her review after, the line she led with was about her mother-in-law complimenting how clean the kitchen was. If you know anything about mother-in-laws and kitchens, thats the whole ballgame.

Thats what a deep cleaning service in New York City is really for. Not a quick surface pass, but the reset that makes your home feel like somebody took it seriously. Lily Maids is a locally owned team of insured, background-checked cleaners working across Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens. Pick a time, see your flat price, and come home to a place that smells like nothing happened here except cleaning. Start with our online booking, or compare it against what a deep cleaning includes.

Straight answer

What makes it a deep clean ?

People ask us this every week, so here it is in plain words. A regular visit keeps a home looking good. A deep clean fixes what a regular visit never gets to.

Deep Cleaning

Deep Cleaning in New York City.

Here is the honest version. NYC apartments are small, sealed up half the year, and they collect grime in places you stop noticing. Grease creeps up the wall behind the stove. Dust packs into radiator fins. Soap film builds on shower tile until the grout looks two shades darker than it is. A deep cleaning service New York City residents book once or twice a year clears all of that out at once.

On a deep clean our team goes inside the oven and the fridge, wipes cabinet interiors when they're empty enough to reach, does baseboards and door frames by hand, gets light fixtures and switch plates, moves what can safely be moved and cleans behind it, and scrubs tile and grout instead of just rinsing it. Bathrooms get real attention: behind the toilet, the base, the track of the shower door, the vent cover.

It matters for more than looks. The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America lists dust mites and indoor dust among the most common household triggers, and closed-up city apartments give them plenty of places to sit. Removing the buildup instead of pushing it around is most of the job.

Most of the city lives in one

Apartment Cleaning that goes deeper.

A small apartment is harder to deep clean than a big house, not easier. Every square foot is working overtime. The kitchen is three feet from the couch, so cooking grease lands on more than the stove. Storage is stacked, which means dust has more edges to sit on. Our apartment cleaning service teams are trained for exactly this: pre-war units with painted-over radiators, walk-ups, converted lofts, and buildings that want cleaners on the service elevator only.

We coordinate with doormen, follow elevator and hallway rules, and handle a fifth-floor walk-up without complaining about it. If your building needs a certificate of insurance on file before vendors come up, tell us at booking and we'll get it sent over.

Same team, same checklist

Maid Service and Housekeeping Service.

A deep clean is the reset. What keeps it that way is regular help. Our maid service in New York City follows the same written checklist on every visit, so you know what happened while you were at work: kitchen scrubbed, bathrooms sanitized, surfaces dusted, floors vacuumed and mopped, beds made, trash out.

Clients who want a bit more hands-on help book it as a housekeeping service instead: same cleaning, plus light straightening, linens changed, and a general tidy of the rooms that get lived in hardest. Tell us which rooms matter most and the team will spend its time there. And when you want ongoing help, most people pair the first deep clean with a recurring plan.

The everyday version

Standard Basic Cleaning and Residential Cleaning.

Not every home needs the full treatment. If your place is already in decent shape, a standard basic cleaning is the right call and the cheaper one. Counters, stovetop, sink, appliance exteriors, cabinet fronts, tub and shower, toilet, mirrors, dusting throughout, then vacuum and mop. See the room-by-room list on our standard cleaning page.

All of our work is residential cleaning - houses, apartments, condos, co-ops, brownstone floors. We don't do offices or retail, and we think thats a good thing. It means our cleaners spend all day in homes and know how a home should be left: nothing moved that shouldnt be, nothing wet that should be dry, and the keys or codes handled exactly the way you told us.

Not sure which level you need? A quick rule: if you cant remember the last time the oven was cleaned, book the deep clean. If you can, standard is fine.

Move in and Move out Cleaning in NYC.

Moving in this city is punishing enough without scrubbing an empty apartment at 11pm. A move-out cleaning is a deep clean of an empty home, aimed at the exact things a landlord or management company looks at during the final walkthrough: inside the oven, inside the fridge, cabinet and closet interiors, bathroom fixtures, window sills, floors and corners. Our move-out cleaning checklist lays it all out.

Moving in instead? Book a move-in cleaning before the boxes arrive so your first night is in a place that was cleaned for you, not by the last tenant in a hurry. Daniel J. in Battery Park City did exactly that after finding his new apartment left dirty, and it made the whole move easier.

One practical note: reserve the freight elevator and tell us about it when you book. Buildings in New York take those windows seriously, and the city's own Department of Housing Preservation and Development is a decent starting point if you want to read up on what landlords can and can't hold you to. Code MOVE30 takes $30 off either direction.

Deep cleaning in a Boerum Hill Brooklyn home

No commitment

One Time Cleaning when you just need it once.

Plenty of our deep cleans are exactly one visit and thats fine. Guests landing Friday. An open house Saturday. Coming home from three weeks away to a layer of dust on everything, like Olivia S. did after her honeymoon. A one time cleaning means no plan, no contract, and no follow-up you didn't ask for.

If the timing is tight, ask about our same day cleaning service. It depends on that day's schedule and where you are in the city, so call (646) 825-3550 and we'll tell you straight whether we can get a team to you. Booking a day or two out always gives you more choices.

Hosting people is the other big one. After-party cleanups, birthday parties, holiday dinners. Lisa M. in Jackson Heights had us in after a five-year-old's birthday, which is a specific kind of mess. If you host short-term guests, our AirBnB cleaning service handles turnovers on a tighter clock, linens and all.

Recurring cleaning keeping a Sheepshead Bay Brooklyn home tidy

Keep the reset

Recurring Cleaning after the deep clean.

Here's what we tell almost everybody: deep clean once, then keep it with regular visits. Its cheaper over a year than booking a deep clean every few months, because the buildup never comes back. Weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly recurring plans are all available, and plan discounts are listed on our pricing page.

We keep the same team on your home whenever the schedule allows, which matters more than people expect. A cleaner who has been in your apartment six times knows that the the guest bath barely gets used and the kitchen does all the work. Emily P. set up ongoing visits for her elderly mother in Park Slope for that reason: consistency, and someone she recognizes at the door.

Add it to the booking

Extras people actually ask for.

Add these when you book so the team blocks the right amount of time. Nothing gets added to your bill after the fact.

Post-renovation dust

Construction dust settles on every surface and then keeps moving for weeks. Michael T. in Midtown and Thomas P. in Cobble Hill both booked this after work in their apartments. We clear surfaces, vents, and floors in passes so the dust leaves instead of relocating.

Sanitizing after illness

After a cold, a flu, or a hospital stay, we focus on high-touch surfaces: handles, switches, faucets, remotes, and bathroom fixtures. Amanda C. in Gramercy booked this before bringing her father home to recover.

Questions and answers

Deep clean details before you book.

These are the questions New Yorkers ask us most about deep cleaning. Every answer is open by default, so nothing is hidden behind a click. Still curious? Our full FAQ page goes deeper.

What's the difference between a deep clean and a standard clean? 01

A standard clean handles surfaces and the visible stuff: counters, stovetop, sink, tub, toilet, mirrors, dusting, vacuum and mop. A deep clean adds the parts that build up over months - inside the oven and fridge, cabinet interiors, baseboards, door frames, light fixtures, radiators, tile and grout, and behind furniture we can safely move. Compare the two lists side by side on standard cleaning and deep cleaning.

How long does a deep cleaning take? 02

Longer than a standard visit, and it depends on the home. A studio in decent shape is a different job than a three-bedroom that hasn't had a real clean in two years. When you book online you'll see the time we've allotted along with your flat price, so there are no surprises at the door. If we think the scope is off after seeing the place, we tell you before we start, not after.

Do you bring cleaning supplies? 03

Yes. Our teams arrive with professional supplies and equipment, so you never have to stock a thing. Prefer green or low-fume products for kids, pets, or someone with allergies? Note it in your booking and we'll use them. If you have a specific product you like for a specific surface, leave it out with a note and the team will use that instead.

Do I need to be home during the cleaning? 04

No. Most of our clients are at work while we clean. Doorman handoff, lockbox, or a smart-lock code all work - just add access instructions in your booking notes. We coordinate with front desks and follow building rules so you dont have to. See preparing for your cleaning for a quick pre-visit rundown.

How often should a NYC apartment get a deep clean? 05

Once or twice a year covers most homes. Pets, allergies, radiator heat, or a lot of cooking push it closer to twice. If you're on a recurring plan, you can usually stretch it further, because the buildup never gets a chance to start. Dust-sensitive households often prefer spring and late fall, once before the windows open and once before the heat comes on.

Can I book a same-day deep cleaning? 06

Sometimes, and it depends on that day's schedule and your location. Deep cleans need a longer block than a standard visit, so same-day is harder to fit. Call (646) 825-3550 and we'll tell you honestly what's open, or read more on our same-day cleaning page. A day or two ahead gives you the most time options.

Should I do anything before the team arrives? 07

A little prep buys you a much better clean. Clear countertops and the bathroom vanity if you can, and empty the fridge shelves you want cleaned inside. Personal items and paperwork put away means we clean rather than sort. Everything else is on us. Full list is on preparing for your cleaning.
