Cleaner working along the baseboards and wood floor of a Manhattan apartment
Upper East Side Floors her mom could walk on safely

A real Lily Maids story

Maria's mother stopped inviting people over because of the floors.

Maria S. called us about her mom's apartment on the Upper East Side. Her mother is in her eighties, still living on her own, and the housework had quietly gotten away from her. The parquet in the hallway had gone dull and sticky in patches. The bathroom tile had that gray film that a mop just pushes around. Maria's real worry wasn't how it looked - it was that her mom was sliding a little on the kitchen floor.

We sent a two-person team for a deep clean with detailed floor work. They vacuumed edge to edge, worked the parquet with a wood-safe cleaner instead of soaking it, scrubbed the bathroom grout by hand, and dried everything so nothing was left slick. It took most of an afternoon. Maria wrote afterward that her mother's home is "spotless and safe" and that she can finally relax. That is the whole point of a proper deep cleaning- not just shine, but a home that works again.

Where floor work fits

Five services, one standard.

Floor cleaning isn't a separate appointment - it's built into every visit we do. Hover an image to see the service, click to explore it. Tap once on mobile to preview, tap again to open.

Our services

Every clean your floors could need.

A floor cleaning service in New York City has to know the difference between a 1910 parquet hallway, a builder-grade vinyl plank in a new Queens tower, and a subway-tile bathroom that hasn't seen a grout brush in six years. Pick the service that fits and we bring the right method. See pricing or how it works.

Maid vacuuming and mopping the floors of a Financial District Manhattan apartment
Same checklist, every visit Vacuum · edges · mop · dry

The every-visit standard

Standard Basic Cleaning with floors that show it.

Standard basic cleaning is our bread and butter, and floors are the part people judge it by. Its the first thing you see when you walk in and the last thing you notice before bed. On every standard visit we vacuum all hard floors and carpet, get the edges and corners where a round vacuum head never reaches, then damp-mop with a cleaner matched to the surface - pH-neutral on wood, a stronger solution on ceramic and porcelain.

We don't flood floors. Too much water is how New Yorkers ruin old wood and swell laminate seams, and it's the single most common mistake we see. Everything gets wiped down and left to dry fast so you're not tiptoeing around for an hour. Full details live on the standard cleaning checklist.

01 Clear scope before your visit

Apartment cleaning of a compact Marine Park Brooklyn living room floor
Studios to classic sixes Every square foot counts

Most of NYC lives in apartments

Apartment Cleaning where the floor is the room.

In a 480 square foot studio, the floor is the apartment. There's no hallway to hide dust in and no basement to sweep it toward. Our apartment cleaning service works around furniture legs, radiator feet, and the awkward strip behind a door where hair and grit pile up. We move light furniture - chairs, side tables, laundry baskets - and clean under it, then put it back where it was.

Pre-war buildings on the Upper East Side usually have original parquet or plank that needs a gentle hand. Newer conversions in Williamsburg tend toward engineered wood and luxury vinyl. Both get treated differently, and neither one gets soaked. Read more about apartment cleaning across the city.

Deep cleaning scrubbing tile and grout in a Midwood Brooklyn bathroom

When the mop isn't enough

Deep Cleaning for floors with history.

A regular mop keeps a floor from getting worse. A deep clean actually pulls things back. That means hand-scrubbing grout lines instead of gliding over them, working corners and baseboard edges with a brush, lifting the dull haze that builds up when the wrong product has been used for years, and getting under and behind furniture that never moves.

It matters for air, too, not just looks. Fine dust settles into floor seams and carpet backing in sealed-up city apartments, and the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America points to regular removal of settled dust as one of the more practical steps for allergy-prone households. Brian S. in Bed-Stuy told us he's been breathing easier since his deep clean. See exactly what a deep cleaning includes.

Move-out cleaning of bare floors in an empty Manhattanville apartment
Empty-home standard Scuffs, tape residue, corners

Before the keys change hands

Move in and Move out Cleaning on bare floors.

An empty apartment is the only time you ever see the whole floor at once, and it's rarely flattering. Furniture leaves dents and dust shadows. Moving blankets and tape leave residue. Dollies leave black scuffs down the hallway. This is the part of a walkthrough where people loose money off their deposit, and it's completely avoidable.

Our move-out cleaning covers scuff removal, corner-to-corner vacuuming, edge detail along the baseboards, and a full mop of every hard surface - the same list a landlords final walkthrough tends to follow. Moving the other direction? Move-in cleaning happens before the boxes land, so night one is on clean floors. Book either one with code MOVE30 and save $30, or check the move-out cleaning checklist first.

Recurring cleaning keeping the wood floors clean in a Fiske Terrace Brooklyn home
Same team, when possible Weekly · bi-weekly · monthly

Ongoing care

Recurring Cleaning is what actually saves floors.

Grit is what wears out a floor. Every time you walk across sand, salt or sidewalk dust, you're dragging fine abrasive over the finish. That's why the floors that look best after ten years aren't the ones that get scrubbed hardest - they're the ones that get cleaned often. A recurring schedule is definately the cheapest floor protection you can buy.

Weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly recurring plans put floor care on the calendar so it stops being a decision. Same standard every visit, same team whenever scheduling allows. Steven H., a single dad in Ridgewood, uses us to keep playground sand from taking over his apartment - and it works.

Know your surface

Six floors, six methods.

Most floor damage in New York apartments comes from the wrong product, not from dirt. Here's how we handle what's actually under your feet.

Hardwood & Parquet

Dry pickup first, then a barely-damp pass with a pH-neutral wood cleaner and a microfiber flat mop. No steam, no vinegar, no standing water. The National Wood Flooring Association makes the same point about excess moisture on wood. If your floors are waxed or oiled rather than polyurethane, tell us at booking so we adjust.

Tile & Grout

Ceramic and porcelain can take a stronger cleaner, but grout is a seperate job. Grout is porous, so it holds soap film and soil that a mop just glides over. Deep cleans include hand-brushing grout lines in bathrooms and kitchen backsplash areas rather than mopping and hoping.

Vinyl Plank & Laminate

Extremely common in newer Queens and Brooklyn buildings and very easy to wreck with water. Water gets into the seams, the core swells, and the plank edges lift permanently. We use minimal moisture and dry as we go.

Marble, Terrazzo & Stone

Acidic cleaners etch natural stone, and once it's etched it's a refinishing job. Bathroom marble and old terrazzo lobbies get neutral cleaners only, soft pads, and no scouring powder. Sealed and unsealed stone behave differently, so we ask.

Carpet & Area Rugs

Slow, overlapping vacuum passes in two directions, plus edge tools along the tack strip where dust collects most. Spot treatment on request. We're not a hot-water extraction company, so if a rug needs full restoration we'll tell you straight.

Concrete & Sealed Floors

Common in loft conversions in Bushwick, Gowanus and Long Island City. Sealed concrete cleans easily but shows every streak, so it gets a rinse-free cleaner and a dry buff pass to avoid the cloudy look.

Questions and answers

The details before you book.

These are the floor questions New Yorkers ask us most. Every answer is open by default, so nothing is hidden behind a click. Still curious? Our full FAQ page goes deeper.

How do you clean hardwood without damaging it? 01

Dry first, wet second, and never much water. We vacuum or dust-mop to lift grit, then use a pH-neutral wood cleaner on a microfiber flat mop that's damp rather than wet. No steam mops, no vinegar, no buckets sloshing across the boards. If your floors are wax-finished or oiled instead of polyurethane, mention it in your booking notes and we'll adjust the product.

Can you actually get grout lines clean? 02

On a deep clean, yes - we hand-brush grout in bathrooms and kitchen floors rather than mopping over it. How much comes back depends on the grout. Sealed grout in decent shape usually improves a lot. Unsealed grout that's absorbed years of soap and soil may lighten without going fully white, and we'll tell you that honestly instead of overpromising. See what a deep cleaning includes.

Do you move furniture to clean under it? 03

We move light, safe-to-lift items - dining chairs, small side tables, laundry baskets, floor lamps - and put them back where they were. Heavy dressers, beds, bookcases and anything with electronics stay put for safety reasons. If you want under a heavy piece cleaned, shift it before we arrive and we'll handle the rest.

What's the difference between floor care on a standard visit and a deep clean? 04

A standard visit vacuums, gets the edges, and damp-mops all hard floors - that's maintenance, and it keeps a clean floor clean. A deep clean adds hand-scrubbed grout, detailed baseboard and corner work, buildup removal, and cleaning under and behind furniture that doesn't normally move. Most homes that haven't had a professional visit in a while are better off starting with a deep clean, then keeping it up on a recurring plan.

Can I book same-day floor cleaning in New York City? 05

Often, yes - it depends on that day's schedule and where you are. Book online or call (646) 825-3550 and we'll confirm the earliest available team. More detail on our same-day cleaning page. Booking a day or two ahead always gives you more choice of arrival windows.

Do you clean floors in Airbnb and short-term rentals? 06

Yes. Turnovers run against your checkout and check-in times, and floors get done last so nothing gets tracked back over them. Linens, reset, trash and floors in one visit. See short-term rental cleaning and the rental cleaning checklist for the full scope.

My building has rules about noise, water and elevators. Is that a problem? 07

Not at all - it's most of the city. We work with doormen and front desks, follow service elevator rules, and handle walk-ups without a surcharge. Add access instructions, elevator reservation times or a lockbox code in your booking notes. Details on preparing for your cleaning.

What if I'm not happy with the floors? 08

Tell us within 24 hours and we come back and re-clean the areas in question at no charge. Same promise on every visit, in every borough. Read the full satisfaction guarantee.
