Maid service finishing a kitchen in an Upper East Side Manhattan apartment
Upper East Side Oven done before the doorbell

A real Lily Maids story

James had three hours and an oven he was hiding.

James called us from the Upper East Side in what he later described as "full panic mode." His in-laws were flying in that afternoon, the apartment was a wreck, and there was one thing he'd been putting off for close to two years — the oven. He hadn't opened it in front of company since a lasagna incident he refused to explain.

Our team took the racks out first and set them soaking while the interior got treated. Then the kitchen got the full standard clean around it — counters, stovetop, sink, floors — so nothing sat waiting. By the time the racks were rinsed and back in, the glass door was clear enough to actually see through. James told us afterward the kitchen sparkled and the visit went perfectly. His words, not ours: "My home looked absolutely flawless."

That's the whole idea behind our oven cleaning service New York City residents book with us. It's not a separate appointment you have to schedule around. Its an add-on you tick when you book a standard cleaning, and it comes included automatically with every deep cleaning and every move-in or move-out clean we do.

Deep cleaning a kitchen range and oven door in a Bensonhurst Brooklyn home
45 to 90 minutes Depending on buildup

What we actually do

Oven cleaning, step by step.

Here's the honest version. Most of the work is patience, not muscle. Baked-on grease doesn't wipe off — it has to be softened first, which is why we start the oven early in the visit and come back to it.

Racks come out and go into a soak so they're loosening while the interior gets treated with a low-odor degreaser. We don't run your oven's self-clean cycle. That cycle heats the cavity to extreme temperatures and it's a known cause of blown thermal fuses, cracked door glass, and a smoke smell that lingers for days in a small apartment. We'd rather do it by hand and hand you back a working oven.

Then it's the door and glass, the frame and seal area, the interior walls and floor of the cavity, and the racks get rinsed and dried before they go back. Grates and drip pans from the stovetop can be handled the same way. If your building has a range hood with a metal filter, that's a seperate add-on — just mention it in your booking notes.

01 Racks removed and soaked
02 Low-odor degreaser, no self-clean cycle
03 Door glass and frame cleared
04 Racks rinsed, dried, reinstalled

Why bother

A dirty oven isn't just ugly.

Grease that's been baked and re-baked a few dozen times is fuel. It's also the reason your smoke detector goes off every time you roast something. Cooking equipment is the leading cause of home fires in the United States according to the National Fire Protection Association, and the U.S. Fire Administration says keeping cooking surfaces free of grease buildup is one of the simplest things you can do about it. In a 600-square-foot apartment where the kitchen opens onto the living room, that smoke has nowhere to go but into your couch.

Less smoke

  • No burning smell at 400°F
  • Fewer smoke alarm false starts
  • Food actually tastes like food
  • Kitchen air stays breathable
  • Guests can't smell last month's dinner

Better heat

  • Clean elements heat evenly
  • Glass door you can see through
  • Racks slide instead of sticking
  • No carbon flaking onto trays
  • Easier to spot a real problem

Fewer arguments

  • Landlord walkthroughs go smoother
  • Roommates stop pointing fingers
  • Open houses show better
  • Guests get a clean kitchen
  • One less thing on your list

Where oven cleaning fits

Every service the oven touches.

Oven cleaning is an add-on to a standard clean, and it's automatically included in deep cleans and move cleans. Here's how that plays out across everything we book. See pricing or how it works.

Apartment cleaning service working in a Stuyvesant Town Manhattan kitchen
Studios to classic sixes Built for tight NYC kitchens

Most of NYC lives in apartments

Apartment Cleaning.

NYC apartment kitchens are small, which sounds like it should make cleaning easier. It doesn't. Everything is packed in tight, the oven usually sits inches from a cabinet, and there's rarely a spare counter to put the racks on. Our teams work these kitchens every day, so we bring our own drop protection and we're careful with pre-war cabinetry and painted surfaces.

Book apartment cleaning and tick oven cleaning at checkout. We coordinate with doormen, follow elevator rules, and handle walk-ups from the Upper East Side to Williamsburg without a fuss.

Maid service completing kitchen work in an East Harlem Manhattan home
Same checklist, every visit Kitchens · baths · floors

Every-visit standard

Maid Service and Housekeeping Service.

Our maid service follows the same trained checklist every time: counters, stovetop, appliance exteriors, cabinet fronts, sinks, bathrooms top to bottom, dusting throughout, beds made, floors vacuumed and mopped. Housekeeping service clients get that identical scope on a schedule that repeats.

The inside of the oven isn't part of that standard scope — it's a deeper job that takes real time. So it lives as an add-on you can attach to any visit. A lot of our housekeeping clients add it once a quarter and leave it off the rest of the year, which honestly is about the right rhythm for most households.

Housekeeping and standard basic cleaning in a Hudson Square Manhattan apartment

The everyday reset

Standard Basic Cleaning and Residential Cleaning.

Standard basic cleaning is the workhorse. Kitchen surfaces, appliance exteriors, bathrooms sanitized, all living areas dusted, floors done, trash out. It's what most people mean when they say "just get the place clean."

Residential cleaning at Lily Maids means the same crew, the same products, and the same published scope whether you're in a studio in Kips Bay or a three-bedroom in Bay Ridge. If you want the oven done on top of that, add it at booking and the price updates before you confirm. No calling us afterward to negotiate.

Deep cleaning a kitchen in a Brooklyn Heights Brooklyn apartment
Oven included free No add-on needed

Top to bottom, inside out

Deep Cleaning.

This is the one where you don't have to think about the oven at all, because it's already in there. Every deep cleaning we do includes oven cleaning as standard, along with inside the fridge, inside cabinets, baseboards, door frames, light fixtures, and behind and under furniture where we can safely reach.

Deep cleans are also the right call after a renovation. David in Astoria had months of post-renovation dust on every surface and years of grime baked into the oven the contractors had been using as a shelf. That's a deep clean, not a standard one. See exactly what a deep cleaning covers.

Move-out cleaning in an empty Cobble Hill Brooklyn apartment
Oven included free Deposit-ready standard

Before the keys change hands

Move in and Move out Cleaning.

Ask any NYC landlord what they check first at a walkthrough and the oven is on the short list, right next to the fridge and the bathroom grout. That's why oven cleaning is built into every move-out cleaning and every move-in cleaning we book. You don't add it, you don't pay extra for it, it's just done.

Maria in Park Slope told us the cleaners went from the baseboards to the oven and the place looked better than when she moved in — and she got every penny of her deposit back. We can't promise a deposit outcome, that's between you and your landlord, but we can promise the oven won't be the reason. Follow our move-out checklist and use code MOVE30 to save $30.

Recurring housekeeping keeping a NoHo Manhattan kitchen tidy
Same team, when possible Weekly · bi-weekly · monthly

Ongoing care

Recurring Cleaning.

Homes on a recurring plan need the oven done far less often, because the stovetop and the surrounding surfaces never get a chance to build up in the first place. Weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly schedules are all available, and recurring clients get a plan discount on every visit.

Most of our recurring households add oven cleaning two to four times a year — usually before Thanksgiving, after the holidays, and once in spring. You can add it to any single visit in your schedule without changing the rest of the plan.

One-time cleaning in a Times Square Manhattan apartment
No commitment Book once, that's it

No schedule required

One Time Cleaning.

Sometimes you just need it handled once. Parents visiting. A dinner party you volunteered for in a moment of confidence. An oven that has quietly gotten out of hand and you'd rather a stranger deal with it than admit how bad it is to anyone you know.

One-time cleaning with oven cleaning added is one of our most-booked combinations. No plan, no card on file for future visits, no awkward cancellation. Book it, we come, we clean, done.

Same-day cleaning service in a Midtown West Manhattan apartment
Subject to availability Call to confirm today

When the timeline shrinks

Same Day Cleaning Service.

Guests landing tonight? A showing tomorrow morning you found out about an hour ago? Our same-day cleaning service is often available, though it depends entirely on that day's route and your neighborhood. Call (646) 825-3550 and we'll tell you straight whether we can get a team to you.

One thing to know: oven cleaning takes time to do properly, so if you're booking same-day and the oven matters, tell us up front. We'd rather build the right window into the schedule than rush it and hand you back a half-done job.

Short-term rental turnover cleaning in a Battery Park City Manhattan apartment
Turnover ready Between every stay

Hosts and landlords

AirBnB Cleaning Service.

Guests cook. Then they leave. What's left in the oven is somebody else's problem, and if you're hosting, that somebody is you. Our short-term rental cleaning and turnover cleaning keep units guest-ready between stays, and oven cleaning can be scheduled into the rotation rather than every single turnover.

Managing more than one unit? Our rental property cleaning covers that too, and the rental cleaning checklist shows exactly what gets touched on a turnover so there's no guessing between you and your cleaner.

More ways we clean.

Spring refreshes, morning-after party rescues, and everything in between. If it needs cleaning in New York City, there's a good chance we do it.

Questions and answers

The details before you book.

These are the questions New Yorkers ask us most about oven cleaning. Every answer is open by default, so nothing is hidden behind a click. Still curious? Our full FAQ page goes deeper.

Is oven cleaning included in a standard house cleaning? 01

No — inside the oven is an add-on to a standard clean, because it takes real time to do properly. Tick it at checkout and the price updates before you confirm. The oven's exterior, control panel and stovetop are always part of the standard kitchen scope. See the full standard cleaning checklist for what comes as standard.

Which cleanings include the oven at no extra cost? 02

Deep cleaning, move-in cleaning, and move-out cleaning all include oven cleaning automatically. You don't need to add anything or ask. That's true across Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens. Compare the scopes on our deep cleaning checklist and move-out checklist.

How long does an oven clean take? 03

Usually 45 to 90 minutes of the visit, though that runs alongside the rest of the cleaning rather than adding an extra hour and half to your appointment. Racks go in to soak early so they're loosening while the team works elsewhere. An oven that hasn't been touched in three years takes longer than one done last spring — we'd rather tell you that than pretend otherwise.

What products do you use, and will my apartment smell? 04

We use a low-odor commercial degreaser rather than the harsh fume-heavy sprays sold at hardware stores. In a small NYC apartment that difference matters a lot. If you have kids, pets, or someone with asthma at home, ask for EPA Safer Choice certified products in your booking notes and we'll bring them.

Do you use the oven's self-cleaning cycle? 05

We don't. Self-clean cycles run the cavity extremely hot and are a common cause of blown thermal fuses, damaged control boards, and cracked door glass — plus the smoke smell hangs around for days. We clean by hand instead. It takes longer and it's the reason your oven still works when we leave.

Can you clean the range hood and stovetop grates too? 06

Yes, both are available as separate add-ons. Hood filters especially — the metal mesh ones trap a surprising amount of grease and most people have never taken one out. Add them at booking, or leave a note and we'll confirm the updated price before the visit starts.

Do I need to be home? 07

No. Most of our clients are at work while we clean. Doorman handoff, lockbox, or a smart-lock code all work — just add access instructions when you book. We coordinate with front desks and follow building rules so you dont have to. See preparing for your cleaning for a quick rundown.

Can I book oven cleaning same-day? 08

Often, yes, but it depends on that day's schedule and your neighborhood. Because the oven needs a proper time window, tell us up front that you want it so we can build the route around it. Call (646) 825-3550 or see same-day cleaning.

What if I'm not happy with the result? 09

Tell us within 24 hours and we'll come back and re-clean the areas in question at no charge. That applies to the oven the same as anything else. Read the full satisfaction guarantee for how it works.
